Activity 5 -- Matching Sight Words

Matching Sight Words

Aims

This activity is designed to:

When to use this activity

Use this activity if you are teaching a book that includes new sight words or sight words that your child is unsure of.

Your child should understand the vocabulary represented by the sight words before being asked to match them. If the sight words can be pictured, you can test your child's understanding with the Selecting Pictures activity. You can teach the vocabulary by reading the book and working on the Matching Pictures activity.

Word selection

Use the words in the book you are teaching. If your child is more sure of some words than others, include them all in the activity so that you child can be successful as often as possible.

Varying the level of difficulty

Start with two cards to choose from when matching less familiar words.

As your child becomes more practised with activity and more familiar with the sight words, you can increase the number of cards they have to choose from when matching.
