Aims

This activity is designed to:

When to start

See and Learn Phrases 3 is designed for children who:

Children who have completed the activities in See and Learn Vocabulary 1, 2 and 3 and in See and Learn Phrases 1 and 2 should be ready to start the activities in See and Learn Phrases 3.

Choosing books

We recommend that you work through the books, sight words and phrases methodically - introducing a book, then teaching the sight words needed to read the book, then testing you child's understanding of the sight words, and finally their understanding of the phrases in the book.

We suggest that you start with the "Feeding" book.

(Please refer to the guidance in Using See and Learn Phrases 3 for the recommended order in which to proceed through the books.)

Instructions

1 Show your child the book

[Books]: Select the book you wish to work with.

[Apps]: From the Main Menu screen, select Activities > Book Reading and select the book to read.

Attract your child's attention

Say "let's read a book".

Encourage your child to look at the book, starting with the cover.

Look at the cover picture ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Point to the picture on the cover.

Say the phrase - for example, "[Feeding]"

Elaborate and introduce the theme of the book - for example, "This book is about feeding, shall we find out who they are feeding?"

Move to the next page. ([Apps]: Tap the arrow to move to the next page.)

Encourage your child to turn the page or tap the button to involve them in the activity.

Look at the picture and read the phrase ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Point to the picture on the page.

Let your child look at the picture.

Say the phrase - for example, "[feeding baby]"

Pause briefly, then repeat the phrase and point to each of the written words as you say them.

Encourage your child to repeat the phrase.

Repeat step 4 for each remaining page ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Move to the next page. Encourage your child to turn the page or tap the button to involve them in the activity.

6 Read the book again twice

[Books]: Turn back to the front cover. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Apps]: Press the exit button to and select the book again. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

Point to the picture on the cover and repeat the phrase. Move to the next page. ([Apps]: Tap the arrow to move to the next page.)

Repeat steps 4 and 5.

Read the book a total of three times.

Moving to the next activity

You can move on to matching sight words in the next activity (Matching Sight Words) when you have read the book with your child at least three times.
