Selecting Sight Words
Aims
This activity is designed to:
- test that your child can link spoken words with the correct written words
- encourage your child to pay attention and join in a learning activity for short periods of time
When to use this activity
Use this activity if you are teaching a book that includes new sight words or sight words that your child is unsure of.
Your child should be able to match the sight words before being asked to select them.
Word selection
Use the words in the book you are teaching. If your child is more sure of some words than others, include them all in the activity so that your child can be successful as often as possible.
Varying the level of difficulty
Start with two cards to choose from when selecting less familiar words.
As your child becomes more practised with activity and more familiar with the sight words, you can increase the number of cards they have to choose from when selecting.
